Understanding the Four Phases of Your Cycle

Your menstrual cycle is one of the most powerful rhythms in your body — and most of us were only taught about one phase of it. Here's what's actually happening each month, and how to use that knowledge.

Phase 1: Menstrual (Days 1–5)

Estrogen and progesterone are at their lowest. Energy is low, intuition is high. This is a natural time to rest, reflect, and plan. Don't fight the urge to slow down.

Phase 2: Follicular (Days 6–13)

Estrogen rises as follicles develop. Energy builds, mood lifts, and you'll likely feel more creative and sociable. Great time to start new projects or have important conversations.

Phase 3: Ovulatory (Days 14–17)

Peak estrogen and a surge of testosterone. You're at your most energetic, confident, and communicative. Schedule presentations, dates, and anything that requires you to shine.

Phase 4: Luteal (Days 18–28)

Progesterone rises, then both hormones fall. Energy dips toward the end of this phase. Great time for detail-oriented work early on, then wind down toward self-care.
